Write-in questions column for Number One (27 August 1983)

Mostly text transcribed below, but in the middle of a few paragraphs there is an image of the band which is used in other press. It consists of the 6-person Naked lineup standing in a white room. Stevie leans forward towards the camera, his arms grabbing the back of a chair. George sits in front of him on that chair, with his fist at his chin. To George's left, Nick also sits, although it's hard to tell if he's sitting on something. To George's right, Peter kneels and grabs onto the chair for stability. In front of George, Jo sits on the floor. To the left of them all, Jon is standing and looking down at the rest of them.

Transcript

I've read that all the people in Kissing The Pink are classically-trained musicians. Can you tell me what instruments they play and where they were trained?
K. Warner, Clacton-on-Sea.

Peter Barnett, who plays bass and violin in the group, won a scholarship to study the violin at Charterhouse; he then went on to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, followed by a post-graduate course at the Guildhall School of Music.

Jo Well[sic] won a scholarship to the Cheithams[sic] School of Music and then went to the Royal College of Music to study clarinet, though she also plays saxophone.

Nick Whitecross went to the London School of Economics, and, although he has had no formal music training, he started playing the guitar when he was studying at the University of the Americas in Mexico.

George Stewart spent three years at The Royal Scottish Academy studying the piano, and also plays percussion in the group.

Jon Kingsley-Hall went to the Royal Scottish Academy too, and studied the organ before going on to the Royal College of Music in London to study organ and piano.

Stevie Cusack, the drummer, has never had any dealings with classical music. His most cultural activity before joining KTP was performing with a heavy metal band called Buster Hymen and the Penetrations.

Notes

Jon also studied orchestral percussion at the RSAMD.
